I read Tony Friscia's briefing from of AMR Research "Forecasting the Future of High-Tech Markets: Lies, Damn Lies, and Statistics", with interest this morning. I think people understand the trend in outsourcing, the contrarian view is what jobs will stay or even grow in the US and why. I believe the bookends of software development will be the grow areas of the future for IT jobs in the US. People who have domain expertise in business processes will build applications using application frameworks that require no coding. Quality-testing staff will make sure new applications can actually work in the client's application environment. Both sets of jobs have to be located in the US. This means good news for the testing industry.
My youngest brother just finished High School and is planning to take up IT. There are few Universities offering this course that promises a lot, though.
